These are my students from my Music-198(Contemporary Island Music) course at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. As in most of my classes/workshops, they consist of students from diverse ethnicities, backgrounds & skill levels.
My main goals are to teach my students how to improve their individual ʻukulele, vocal(ka leo hīmeni) & rhythm(pana o ka mele) skill levels as well as utilizing those skills to add/compliment to any “Kanikapila” session.
The end result is an understanding of the action of Lōkahi(harmony) and a heightened perspective of oneʻs ability to see and fill the “pocket” of empty space where one can add their part with any “kanikapila” session…not to mention the knowledge & ability to increase their skill level on their own.(click the link below to view video)Read More
